Joe Kelly Gave Up #17 To Shohei Ohtani And Announced His New Number With This Very Creative Video

Now THIS is how you announce your new number. The second Joe Kelly heard the Dodgers were interested in signing Shohei Ohtani he had to know his #17 was gone. He actually re-signed on Monday after getting traded to LA last year, but that doesn't mean he was getting his old number back. Imagine if he tried to call seniority and strong arm Ohtani by telling him that he's rocking the number again. What a ballsy move that would have been by Kelly. I have a ton of questions about the number negotiation as well...

Did he have to negotiate? Did the Dodgers flat out tell him Kelly he couldn't have 17? Since he was a free agent is it even his number to request? But it seems like Kelly was perfectly fine with giving up his number to the greatest player we've ever seen.

Kelly's wife throwing all her old #17 stuff all over the yard, changing one of the stocking to say "ShoKai", then punctuating it by drawing a 99 on Joe's back when he comes out with a white t-shirt on. Great video all around. Creative, fun soundtrack, funny, just an awesome way to announce he's gonna rock Manny Ramirez's old 99. 99 does look good on a reliever too, that fits him. Getting big "Wild Thing" vibes here. At least Kelly can look back proudly when the #17 Dodgers jersey is the #1 best seller next season. Claps all around for the Kelly family having fun with this announcement.
