A Goddamn Ref Fight Broke Out At A 4TH GRADE Basketball Game
"Oh my goodness" is right, extremely suburban dad! You know the world has completely gone to shit when the people enforcing the rules are fighting each other.
I don't blame the refs though. They've had to deal with asshole parents dating back to when my old ass was a kid. From what I can gather, things have only gotten crazier with youth sports in America now that every other parent thinks they are raising a future professional athlete (or at least one that can get them off the hook for paying for college) and has all the bills that come with all the payments involving travel teams to show for it.
That has led to plenty of absurd videos where youth sports refs are getting verbally and/or physically assaulted for a job that comes with no glory, a shitty paycheck, and is about as fun to watch as unless you know someone playing.
On top of that, these refs get lumped in with the refs that completely botch calls in games that actually matter, be it your favorite pro team, fantasy team, or a bet you lost, and take a ton of heat for being in the same profession. Hell, the entire Chiefs franchise and their fans have spent the last 16 hours losing their mind about a CORRECT call a ref made at the end of their game against the Bills.
Blogger's Note: I would say the Chiefs Right Tackle committing false starts over and over on Opening Night was more embarrassing for the NFL but that's just me and I will forever love the Chiefs for beating the Eagles in the Super Bowl last year (Jawaan Taylor was also damn near in the backfield on the infamous Toney play last night as well not to mention Lane Johnson was doing the same false start nonsense during the Eagles' ride to said Super Bowl).
I could also include a bunch of clips of the awful missed calls from the end of the Chiefs-Packers game that fucked over both teams or different NBA or MLB plays that were bungled. Instead I think we can all agree that refs of all kinds are down bad right now.
Which is why I say we let the zebras fight! They have more steam to blow off than anyone else at the games and these two refs in particular have incredible fighting forms putting their dukes up like it's a GTA game. There is even a third ref there to officiate the fight and I guarantee two referees brawling is SIGNIFICANTLY more entertaining than anything a bunch of 9-year-olds did on a basketball court.
