Fantasy Football Funktown: Player WAR Update, Worst Realistic Team Possible, And The Team You Could Have Assembled Hungover Sunday AM

Here is your official best fantasy football players in PPR through 13 weeks according to my wins above replacement model. Quick TL;DR - WAR estimates how many wins acorss a 17-game season your fantasy team gets solely due to a specific player MORE than a replacement-level player at the same position.

Fantasy playoffs are just around the corner as Week 13 byemagedon has now passed. Let's get to some takes.

Christian McCaffrey is worth 1.5 wins MORE than the third best fantasy player (Jalen Hurts)

Let's not leave Tyreek Hill out either as he's a full win above Hurts as these two megastars have had no chill this entire season. How are both of these studs so much better than everyone else? I have the answer. It's because pretty much most other fantasy players have sucked this year.

I've tracked WAR for a few years now and every year the #1 overall player is somewhere around 4. CMC is at 3.8 so that checks out. But there's usually a little bit of a slope of stars going down instead of the 180 grade drop after Tyreek Hill. Where did all the "really good but not top few" guys go?

Get Ready to see a QB taken in Round 1 next year - and get ready to take one yourself

I blogged last week that I think we all need to prepare not only to see players like Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts taken in Round 1 but to consdier doing it ourselves. The days of the a viable ho-hum fill in QB seem to be quite over at least for the forseable future.

I mean…

It's time to embrace the new class of tight ends

It sure seems like Travis Kelce is riding off into the sunset even though he's the only player on his team with qualifications in catching a football. Sam LaPorta had another big game while Hockenson rested in the clubhouse after another solid outing in Week 12. But Trey McBride is the biggest eye brow raiser at the moment. Three 20-point games in his last six on a premier garbage team was impressive enough for the Cardinals to give Zach Ertz the boot. And don't foget about Dalton Kincaid or cole Kmet either. Seriously, where did all these white tight ends come from? Gotta be Iowa right?

Did your fantasy team suck this week? I have a question for you. Why didn't you just pick up these guys Sunday morning for 110 points instead?

Love that every player is an "NA" in the ESPN league start percent. That means they were buried so low in the player pages I didn't even pull enough pages to get to them. Meanwhile, they certainly did better than this more realistic team of players you might have started. Take a shot of eggnog for any sorry sap you put out there:

That's 19.5 points. Just an abomination. Congrats to Gabe Davis for not making this team this week. I know he's on bye but you just never know anything with this guy.
