Washington-Oregon Is The Perfect Example Of Why We Don't Need A 12-Team Playoff

What an awesome game. Washington entered the Pac-12 Championship Game 12-0, yet was a 9.5-point underdog to Oregon despite having already beaten the Ducks once this year. And after delivering one of the games of the year in their first meeting, the teams authored another instant classic that certainly punched the Huskies' ticket to the College Football Playoff.

Anyone who can watch that game and still clamor for a 12-team Playoff is insane.

The winner of that game was going to be included in the CFP no matter what. This was already a Playoff game. Next year, that game would have been for nothing more than a first round bye and Oregon would still be preparing for a Playoff game in Autzen Stadium.

The Ducks had their chance(s). They got an opportunity to avenge their lone regular season loss and fell to Washington again. We don't need to see Oregon in the CFP, but this is the last year we wouldn't.

I know the cool thing is to give everybody a trophy now. Major League Baseball plays 162 regular season games and then still lets everybody into the postseason. But college football's regular season is supposed to mean something. You don't have to allow yourself to be bullied by people telling you a 12-team Playoff will be great. Nonetheless, we march towards our inevitable destiny of 9-3 teams playing for a national championship.

Anyway, that was the last Pac-12 game ever. What a way to end it.
