The Fact Kansas Students Can Screw Each Other Over To Get A Better Seat For Tonight's UConn Game Is Why There's Nothing Like College Sports

So this video went viral earlier this week. Apparently this wasn't the campout, just the lottery process from what I read. Okay, cool. A lot of big time programs have some sort of lottery for tickets. I remember at UK we used to have to go to Memorial on a Monday night, get handed a random number, tickets were drawn in groups of 50, you'd go down and pick whatever seat was available for the next game. Brutal process because you could be there 15 minutes or hours. Then if you had eRUPPtion Zone tickets it was general admission which led to camp outs the night before games.

At Kansas though? This is the sort of tomfoolery I love about college sports.

I wanted to make sure this was still the rule, so I went to the official Kansas fan page. The rules are insane:

I love that you can call roll call at any time between 6am-10pm in hopes that people in front of you aren't there and bam, you move up in line. Fuck yeah. This is reality show-esque and I'm a sucker for anything like that. Imagine if this was the system for anything else in the world that mattered? And, yeah, tonight's game against UConn matters. It's college basketball. Top-5 games matter. Just imagine going into your cube and yelling for roll call at like 8:22am and if someone wasn't there you get their job or bonus of some sort. It'd be as ruthless as ruthless goes.

That said, you wake me up with a yell at 6:01 on a Monday morning? Be ready for a fight. I do think it's bullshit they don't have to stay there 24 hours at a time, that's how it should be. You should also have the entire group there. Can't rotate out or anything. Show some heart and make these kids suck it up and camp out for real 24 hours at a time.

I need a final count at tip today. How many groups got fucked over by a roll call? I don't understand how you don't have someone there, seems pretty easy. But I need to know the number. Clearly a shit ton of students are going wild for this game and rightfully so. Phog Allen is as elite as elite gets in home courts, so it's not a surprise. But I need to know the cutthroat business.

PS: Typing it out as 'defending your spot' sounds way cooler than it is. You should be able to do call out like a physical challenge or trivia or something to move up a spot. Really make it into a reality show.
