Aaron Rodgers Has Been Cleared For Football Activity And His Practice Window Opens Today

As a Jets fan, I'm torn (not an intentionally bad Achilles pun, I promise) about this news. The Jets are 4-7. They have no realistic shot at making the playoffs. It's probably not the most prudent decision bringing back a 40 year old guy who just tore his Achilles' 79 days ago. He should just stay home and get ready for next season. Imagine if he re-injures the heel? Not only all of that but doesn't it make more sense to try to lose the rest of the way to get the best possible draft pick?

On the other hand, it's fucking brutal watching Tim Boyle attempt (and fail) to be a starting quarterback each week. To be fair to him, that's not what he's supposed to do. He's there to help Aaron Rodgers be the best starter he can be. I'm sure he's a great guy and perfect in practices. But I'm sure even the Boyle family knew that something would have horribly wrong for Tim to start. It did go horribly wrong for the Jets...really thrice between Rodgers getting hurt, Zach Wilson continuing being Zach Wilson and Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh just sitting by and never getting a real replacement.

In the clip above, Saleh is trying to pump the brakes a bit by saying it's "just part of the rehab process". That's bullshit. I'm old as dirt and been watching sports for several decades. I don't remember any player in any sport practicing 11 weeks after tearing his Achilles. This is weird, wacky stuff. Saleh has to know how the fans would react to this especially considering the current QB play.

So what does this even mean for this season? As I mentioned, they are 4-7. They are behind seven teams just for the LAST WILD CARD SPOT. The remaining schedule is soft for the Jets but they still have games left against better teams like the Dolphins and Texans. Honestly, you could make a case that the Falcons, Commanders and Browns might be better too. The Jets have to play them as well.

This has been a dreadful season. The Jets haven't scored 14 points in a game since OCTOBER 15TH! That's fucking insane. I would love the short term fun of seeing Rodgers play the last three games of the season instead of Tim Fucking Boyle. Believe me. That's what the heart wants. But the brain tells me it makes no sense and the Jets and Aaron Rodgers need to look at next season.

Just stay home Aaron. It's only 284 days until next season starts.
