We Had A Legitimate BRAWL In The Missouri/Arkansas Game

In general, sports fights have a very low hit rate. Hockey is an exception because fighting is part of the game, but in baseball, even when the bench is clear, it’s usually just a lot of posturing after somebody gets hit by a pitch. In football, you might see an unnecessary roughness penalty or two, but for the most part, the game remains pretty civil. That was not the case with this game.

The obvious joke here is that this is the most fight that Arkansas has shown in all season. That would be a low blow, but I’ll make that joke anyway. Credit to Eric Musselman, who turned their basketball program into a force, because I feel like Arkansas football is the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern of the SEC (that’s TWO Shakespeare references). It just seems like they’re always fucking up.

This brought back a memory that I had forgotten of that wild brawl between South Carolina and Clemson back in 2004. Lou Holtz was never the same after that game. Can you imagine if something like that happened today? It would probably be an overanalyzed headache machine like the Michigan Michigan/Michigan State tunnel incident from last year.

It seems like the referees did a pretty good job of cleaning this one up. The game resumed shortly after, and as of the time I’m writing this, Missouri is pummeling Arkansas 17-0. Given how this thing is going, it’s pretty obvious the most interesting thing to come from this game will be the brawl.
