Texas A&M Has A Max Johnson Decoy Warming Up To Make Mississippi State Think He's Playing
The day after Texas A&M's 38-35 loss to Ole Miss last week, rumors started circulating online that Aggies QB Max Johnson had sustained a rib injury. Jimbo Fisher confirmed the injury on Monday, but said multiple times throughout the week that Johnson was practicing and in line to start against Mississippi State tonight.
Well, there's still no word on who the Aggies will send out there for their first offensive series, but it seems like it probably won't be Johnson, given that the left-handed QB wearing No. 14 for A&M in warm-ups isn't him. That's right, Texas A&M sent a decoy out on the field to warm up wearing Johnson's number, presumably to make MSU think he's good to go. If anybody in the Bulldogs' locker room checks their phone before the game, though, the secret seems to be out.
This is just classic college football shit. Nowhere else do you get a hat-wearing quarterback decoy in early warm-ups to keep your opponent guessing for another hour when they couldn't change their defensive game plan if they wanted to. It's so stupid and beautiful. I love this sport.
