Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner spoke to the media today to discuss the very important offseason that will unfold over the next few months.

For the most part he didn't say a whole lot of groundbreaking stuff. He expectedly backed Aaron Boone as manager and emphasized that he spoke to several members of the team and organization to assure he was the right man for the job. He believes you can build a championship team for under $300M. 2023 was a disaster. They will be active. Yada, yada yada.

The big news were found out today was the masterplan for 2024. Now keep in mind the braintrust of the franchise met countless times since the end of the regular season. Hard conversations were reportedly had. Egos were checked at the door. After one of the worst Yankees seasons of my lifetime, it was time to revamp the formula and get back to the Yankee way. Hal didn't reveal a whole lot of what's to change, but gave us a taste to get the fans listening at home excited. Here was said taste.

In 2023 the Yankees scored the sixth fewest runs in the sport. They batted .227 as a team with an OPS of .701. The only team with less hits than them was Oakland. Everyone crunched the numbers and decided the answer was bunting. We're gonna bunt people to death.

It's honestly crazy Hal gave away this big of a secret so casually. You'd think if you were gonna change the game that radically you'd shock the world on Opening Day or something. Watch the jaws on opponents' faces drop as Judge, Stanton, DJ, Gleyber drop down bunts left and right. Nope, beans have been spilled. Cat is out of the bag. Now the rest of baseball has months to prepare for such an onslaught. Hal can't do anything right.

Shoot me.
