College Basketball Was Ruined When They Got Rid Of The 24 Hour Tipoff Marathon And Stopped Giving Us Afternoon Games On Opening Day

You may remember the glory days, something we all want to get back to. That day in college basketball was the 24 hour tipoff marathon. You may be thinking, Reags, that doesn't make sense. You're telling me there was a time to watch college basketball at every hour of the day? Yes. It was glorious. It was a day that turned college basketball boys to men as fans. You were dedicated enough with enough PEDs to stay up for 24 hours sweating out a Marist 6am game, because why the hell not?

Then back in 2017 they decided to cancel it because of all these other events, claiming it was tough logistically. I don't care, I'm a selfish person. I don't care if ESPN thought it was tough. Suck it up and give us basketball. I'd say it ruined the sport more than what people want to blame transfer portal and NIL. It was one thing we had every year that we knew would be there for us.

Now why do I bring this up on day 1 when I'm trying to be positive and happy? Because it's 1pm as I write this and the only games on to this point have been:

Spalding at IUPUI

St. Joseph's New York at Hofstra

Fort Lauderdale at Troy

North American (not the continent) at Stephen F. Austin

Kansas Christian at Prairie View A&M

That's fucking gross. Not one Division I vs Division I game. How does that happen? How do we not have a decent game until Oregon vs Georgia at 4:30. WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE? It's a Monday for a sport that a large majority of people only pay attention to during these early tournaments and then after football ends. Give us and them something to enjoy. You're telling me if there's a game on at 9:30 in the morning people aren't tuning in? If you put it on, they will come.

Don't want to do 24 hours? Fine, still stupid, but give us something to watch during the day. We can't get a couple mid-major teams going at it right now? No, I gotta sit here and debate about watching North American just to see how Stephen F. Austin looks. Listen, there are 363 teams in Division I. Far too many teams. They should have to play each other and they should have to play each other right now. I will not rest until we get common sense with day games on day 1 instead of going up against Monday Night Football.
