The Cubs Had 6 Home Games This Season That Were Higher Scoring Than Iowa-Northwestern At Wrigley Field

Iowa and Northwestern squared off at Wrigley Field on Saturday in a game whose total hovered around 30 most of the week, teetering on the lowest in FBS history — already set by Iowa earlier this season. The game's only appeal was how gross it could get and it did not disappoint. It was so atrocious that you had no choice but to have Peacock on a second screen to watch the magic unfold.

With 2:00 left in the game, the score was 7-0 Iowa. That's actually when I started preparing this blog and the stat would have been that 51 of the Chicago Cubs' 81 home games in 2023 were higher scoring than this football game, which would have obviously been far funnier than just six. But we'll take what we can get.

Northwestern did manage to finally make it into the end zone with 1:50 to go, but Iowa was determined to rob us of overtime in the Sickos Game of the Year and went down the field for the game-winning field goal.

So this beautiful mess of a game finished with a final score of 10-7, not only going under one of the lowest totals in college football history by two touchdowns but also failing to eclipse the scoring in six 2023 Cubs games. Brian Ferentz will be dearly missed when we no longer have the meme that is this Iowa offense in our lives.
