Here Is What We Learned About The Bears After Two Games Of Tyson Bagent

After two games featuring an undrafted QB from a Division II school I think we have learned one thing...Justin Fields likely isn't going to be a franchise QB. People HATED my take after the Raiders game. All I ever said was that I thought Bagent did enough against the Raiders to earn another start. I never said he was the savior. In fact the thing I actually said was that I thought he was impressive given the circumstances and that he could be a good backup in the NFL for 10 years. I don't think that is a wild take.

What we have seen from Bagent are all the things we have yet to see from Fields. Timing, accuracy, an understanding of the offense, and pocket awareness. That clip of Collinsworth saying that the Bears coaching staff will tell Justin Fields to study what Bagent has done so far...yeah, no shit. I can't help but notice that Bagent looks more comfortable in the offense than Fields. Fields has every single tool you could dream of in a QB, but you can't teach the things that Bagent does well. If you could then you'd think that Fields would've picked up on those things in year 2 of this offense, year 3 as a pro, and 31 NFL starts. I also can't help but look around the league and notice that Will Levis, Stroud, and other young QBs look more advanced as passers than Fields. At some point you have to admit that it isn't working and you are what your record is. I do think Fields is a victim of some bad luck, bad coaching, and circumstances, but it hasn't worked. It sucks. I believed. I wanted him to be the guy. It doesn't appear that he is even with more weapons around him this year.

And I don't care how you move the ball down the field and score points. We've yet to see that dynamic running from Fields this year. If he isn't doing that then he isn't bringing much to the table. I hope I am wrong and something clicks when he comes back from injury (I'd do it for the Carolina game at home, let Bagent start again in New Orleans), but at the moment...the Bears don't have a QB. They also don't have a LT, LG, C, head coach, literally don't have a defensive coordinator, any defensive ends, and any playmakers anywhere besides DJ Moore. That was so evident last night. Big gaps in dudes between the Chargers and Bears. Mack, Bosa, Derwin James, Herbert, Allen, that monster TE, Slater, etc. They've got guys, including a QB, and we don't. It's time to burn it down again.
