Words I Never Thought I’d Say: I’m Ashamed To Call Dave Portnoy My Boss
This breaks my heart to write it really does. Working at Barstool has been a dream come true. It’s given me opportunities and experiences I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world and most importantly a life where even in times of stress and working weekends/late nights/long hours I still recognize 99% of the time it’s watching/talking about/gambling on sports which are things that I absolutely love. They say if you love your job you never work a day in your life and I feel very lucky to fall into that category.
Other than doing what I love for a living the second best part about working here (or was at least) is that Dave is a great boss. He‘s a straight shooter and he‘s incredibly loyal, both things I admire and would want in an ideal boss. When I’m out the most common question I get asked by stoolies or friends of mine is “What’s Dave like?” My usual response would be something along the lines of “He’s the best, I’d take a bullet for him. No one else I’d rather work for.” I was always proud to say it because of the respect I had for Dave and because I really meant it from the bottom of my heart…. Until now.
Dave was a man I once knew to above all else tell the truth, almost to a fault at times. Anyone that knows Dave personally knows him to be honest….. until now.
As a prominent figure in not only the Michigan landscape but just the world in general Dave had a chance to take a stand against lying and cheating, two things he knows to be wrong and has been on record adamantly against since 2011 as you can see in the tweet above. To see him now not only going back on his morals but to blatantly be condoning the cheating and lying of his alma mater is disgusting. It makes me question his character as a boss and as a man. This was a man I was once so proud to work for and now unfortunately I can no longer say that in good faith.
How far has this mans moral compass fallen? Now we’re laughing about cheating and lying? From a man who once said “Cheaters never win!” It’s just such a shame. Make a few bucks and then before you know it they’re a total sellout. Where is the man I once knew? The man I had all that respect for? The man i would have taken a bullet for? The most honest man I knew? Apparently it was all a lie. The man who was so against lying and cheating is nowhere to be found. He’s done such a 180 now he wants to hire liars and cheaters!
I remember when you used to have to get catfished to get your foot in the door here. Now all you have to do is be the biggest lowlife scumbag on planet earth and hey you’re in! I’m not mad Dave, I’m just disappointed.
The one thing he is right about is cheaters never win! Michigan has been cheating for years and they’re still so pathetic they haven’t won anything! No championships and not even a playoff win to their credit even when they got to play 2022-2023 TCU, by far the worst playoff team in CFB history and they still couldn’t get the job done! So embarrassing they went on to lose to the national champion Georgia Bulldogs 65-7!
Karma is a bitch!
P.S. - Dave if you’re reading this, one size up on the shirts from now on. That doughy midsection and developing man titties are doing those schmedium size t-shirts no favors.
