Connor Bedard WHO? The Boston Bruins are off to their hottest start to a season in nearly 90 nears thanks to 19 year old stud Matt Poitras. Their 6-0-0 record is the longest win streak to begin a season, tying the 1937-1938 Bruins (NHL record is 10 straight). And while it's not allllll thanks to Matt Poitras, he has made his stamp in the NHL and there's no way Boston sends him back to the OHL when his 9 games are up. They'll let his contract slide a year. Man, has he been a welcome addition to the lineup.

With the Bruins losing both Bergeron and Krejci in the offseason, few (myself included) thought Poitras would step up and deliver this early. He had an outstanding camp, and even hit a bit of a wall in his first 2 NHL games. Now that he's adjusted to the new system and to the pro life, it sure looks like he's not fuckin' leaving.

Poitras has 3 goals in 2 games. Including the game winner against Anaheim and a sweeeet goal last night against Chicago. Poitras (pronounced Pott-TRAHS) started below the goal line, hunted the puck down and blew past Corey Perry and buried the breakaway. Defense into offense babyyyyy.

Sorry to the Guelph (shout out Grier) Storm, but Poitras is here to stay. Time to move out of the hotel, Matt! 3 goals in 2 games and he seems to be gaining his confidence each and every game. I've been pretty impressed by just his sheer hockey IQ and how he uses his small stature to his advantage to be more crafty. Jim Montgomery has also played him with a handful of different linemates to see where he'd stick, and right now he's riding high with Marchand and Pastrnak…

Some other news, notes and quotes…

- Milan Lucic blocked a shot vs. LAK and has not played the last two games. Patrick Brown filled in on the 4th line.

- Danton Heinen is still with the team but has not been signed. There's a bit of redundancy with Brown so we'll see what happens when Poitras crosses the 9 game threshold.

- JVR / Coyle / Frederic have solidified themselves as a solid third line, which has been made important thanks to Poitras being ahead of schedule. Coyle no longer has to be a top 2 center and will play more favorable matchups.

- Jakub Lauko took a nastttyyy skate to the face last night in Chicago but sounds like he'll be okay and the blade missed his eye. Thank goodness. He's one tough SOB.

- Morgan Geekie has played up and down the lineup, but I don't think he's suited for a top 6 role. Would love to eat my words but I imagine there will be more line tinkering going forward, especially when Lucic returns.

- Both Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark are undefeated as they've shared the load in net this season. I said it in my season preview blog but they're going to have to be really good for the B's to have a chance for playoffs and beyond, and boy have they delivered so far. Swayman recorded his 1st shutout and is 3-0-0 with a .957 SV% and a 1.34 GAA. Ullmark, also 3-0-0 has a .962 SV% and a 1.0 GAA. They will be the reason the Bruins win a lottttt of hockey games this year. So far so good.

The Bruins may be 6-0-0 but they haven't been perfect, still a lot of areas they can tighten up and clean up but thanks to the rookie, the goalies and the effort levels they are off to the races in the centennial SZN. More work to be done, but impressive thus far.

Poitras > Bedard …

Potheads rise up!
