North Carolina Lost At Home To 1-5 Virginia And Saw Its Playoff Hopes Take A Massive Blow
Just when people started talking about North Carolina as a legitimate College Football Playoff contender, the Tar Heels laid maybe the biggest egg of anyone in the country this season and lost to 1-5 Virginia at home as 24-point favorites.
You could have had me list every unranked team in the Power Five and I honestly think Virginia would have been the very last one on my list to have beaten a Top 10 team on the road this season. The Cavaliers had not beaten an FBS team until tonight. Just insanity.
Mack Brown and Drake Maye have to be kicking themselves for this loss with Duke the only remaining ranked team on the Tar Heels' schedule. Even if they finish the year 12-1, it looks like the competition amongst one-loss teams for the last one or two CFP spots is going to be intense. UNC could be going up against Oregon, Alabama, Texas, Penn State and one of Ohio State or Michigan among others. It's going to be a tough road now.
A week ago, people were talking about what might happen in the ACC if Louisville, UNC and Florida State all finished the season undefeated and now it looks like none of them may make it out of tonight unscathed. College football.
