The Trailer Has Been Released For "Ferrari" Starring Adam Driver And It Looks Like The First Great Film Michael Mann Has Made In Years

I really had to sift through my Rolodex of memories to figure out what the last movie Michael Mann made that was really well received. I think it was "Collateral." That was 2004. He lost his way a little bit. He had a weird stretch where he shot all his movies on digital with that really high frame rate. Do you have the movie "Public Enemies?" It wasn't awful, but I remember being distracted by how it was shot. His new movie "Ferrari" starring Adam Driver, just had a trailer drop, and it looks like it will be a front-runner for some Academy Awards this year.

Adam Driver is one of my favorite actors working right now. He's been very smart with the projects he's chosen and showed some incredible range as an actor. His performance in "Marriage Story" is one of my favorite performances of the last decade. He's fantastic, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him on the shortlist for Best Actor based on what I've seen from this trailer.

This film had its official premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August, and unsurprisingly, it received a standing ovation. Now, keep in mind that every movie released at these festivals gets a standing ovation, so I wouldn't consider that much. But it does have a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes right now, which is a pretty damn good score. That would be the best that Michael Mann has seen in a long time. I'm rooting for this. I love the people attached to it, and even though I feel like he's lost his way a bit, Michael Mann is a unique Director. I hope this crosses the finish line.
