Sean McVay Might Selfishly Skip This Weekend's Game for The Birth of His Son

NY Post - Rams coach Sean McVay and his wife, Veronika Khomyn, are expecting the birth of their son to come “any day now,” he said at his press conference addressing the media earlier Friday.

Depending on when the baby comes, that could impact if he’s coaching from the sidelines on Sunday in the Rams’ Week 6 matchup vs. the Cardinals.

Major red flag if you ask me. I have no choice but to question Sean McVay's commitment to the game of football if he's considering this move. You hear the stories all the time. So many of the greatest coaches and and athletes in history neglected their families constantly in order to succeed in their sport. There's people who would dream of missing a game to attend a milestone family moment.

Take Urban Meyer for example. One of the best college football coaches of all time. In Urban's prime, do you think he would miss a game for his kids? He was famously absent as a father. He wanted to win so bad that he nearly died of a heart attack on the sideline. You can't possibly be more absent of a father & husband than if you're dead. But almost dying make him a hell of a football coach. And what happened when he finally decided to focus on his family and sign that bizarre family contract?

Urban Meyer Family Contract

  1. My family always comes first
  2. I will take care of myself and maintain good health
  3. I will go on a trip once a year with Nicki (at minimum)
  4. I will not go more than 9 hours a day at the office
  5. I will sleep with my cell phone on silent
  6. I will continue to communicate daily with my kids
  7. I will trust God's plan and not be overanxious
  8. I will keep the lake house
  9. I will find a way to watch Nicki and Gigi play volleyball
  10. I will eat three meals a day

He found his way to the Jacksonville Jaguars and put together the worst head coaching performance the NFL had ever seen. He was forced to hang up the whistle, and start eating meals again like a quitter. The minute you start acknowledging your family in the football business, it's over for you.

Not to mention, for Sean McVay to miss this game for his child's birth is doing a massive disservice to the Los Angeles Rams. Coaching a game while your wife is in labor is an automatic win. Not only his he robbing the Rams of a guaranteed W, he's robbing Rams bettors everywhere who would have had a guaranteed winner betting on the "Sean McVay Baby Game". That's potentially billions of dollars stolen from the pockets of gamblers across the globe. All because he wants to be there with his wife for the birth of their kid. 385,000 babies are born every day. There are only a handful NFL games a year..

I understand they're just playing the Cardinals, and the Rams should be able to win the game regardless, but can you imagine if they don't? Come to think of it, he's doing his son a disservice as well. Think of the burden his son will carry for the rest of his life knowing that the Los Angeles Rams failed to defeat the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7 of the 2023 NFL Season because of him. That would drop the Rams to 2-4. What if they end up making a charge and miss the playoffs by a single game? That's the type of thing a kid will never recover from. Sean McVay skipping the upcoming game to attend the birth of his son is a wholly selfish move. It's a move that benefits nobody but Sean McVay himself. How dare him. Ever heard of a video camera Sean? I'm sure your wife has one on her phone. Coach the Rams, get your win, then have movie night with your wife and newborn baby Sunday evening. It'll be the same thing as if you were there in person.
