James Franklin Poured Gasoline On A Fire Today By Taking A Shot At Michigan's Weak Non-Conference Schedule

I’ve been pretty open about how I feel about Michigan’s non-conference schedule. I think it’s a joke. It’s been a joke the last two years. It will change next season. People are acting like Michigan has East Carolina on their schedule for every game in the non-conference until 2032. But is there anyone denying that this Michigan team isn't awesome? I understand that the caliber of opponent has not been good, but they’re also shit-pumping everyone they play. There’s something to be said about execution, and this team is executing.

I'm not going to act like Jim Harbaugh hasn't said his fair amount of dumb shit in his time, but the guy is a little bit more selective with picking his spots. He didn't slam Ryan Day and claim that he was born on third until after he finally beat Ohio State. The last thing I want to do is act like Jim Harbaugh is a victim, but if Jim Harbaugh would say something like this about another Big Ten opponent after losing to them 41–17 the previous year, the guy would be crucified.

Penn State is excellent this year. Drew Allar seems like he's the real deal. That will be arguably Michigan's toughest opponent on the schedule. It would not shock me if they went to Happy Valley and lost, but they haven't played yet. You're going to call out one of your conference opponents when, last year, that opponent ran for 418 yards against you. Enjoy the bulletin board material.

Back when Jim Harbaugh couldn’t win big games, I had no issue with coaches taking shots at him and his program. They had not earned any respect. But times have changed. People act like we’re still in 2018. Forget the non-conference, this team hasn’t lost to a Big Ten opponent in almost 2 calendar years. I find it bizarre the people keep moving the goalposts. First it was "We need you to beat Ohio State" then it was "We need you to beat Ohio State again" and now it’s "You have to win a National Championship." James Franklin is a field goal block away from being the most mid football coach in the country. He has a lot more to prove than Harbaugh does. I’m looking forward to that matchup in November.
