Fantasy Football Funk Town - Week 5 WAR Update, The Hungover Team You Could Have Picked Up Sunday Morning, And MORE!

OK above is your Week 5 fantasy football PPR WAR updated best player chart. Let's fire off some takes.

Christian McCaffrey still #1 after a meh game

And it's still not even close. With over a full win expected over replacement more than overall #2 Tyreek Hill, Run CMC might be running away with MVP honors. Anyone remember Elijah Mitchell? I literally typed Eliajah Moore before immediately thinking "wait a minute, not that one". Mind you I haven't had coffee yet. The point is - Mitchell was supposed to be like a 30% touches guy to Christian's 60%. Now Jordan Mason looks like he'll be the go to guy to give CMC some rest in situations the 49ers lead by a gazillion.

Top ADP wide receivers are BALLING

Meanwhile, pretty much every top-billed wide receiver has found their way into the upper echelons. The same can't be said for top-billed running backs outside of McCaffrey. The zero-RB fantasy guys still look pretty good with predictible results from the top wide receivers.

PukaAnon is BACK!

Look at what's going on in Los Angeles. Cooper Kupp is as back as can be but new toy Puca Nacua is still putting on while Tutu Atwell even managed to somehow score while having both Kupp and Nacua to compete for targets with. This got me thinking… is Sean McVay heightist? Kupp and Nacua are both 6'2'' and Atwell is 5'9". That's munshkin territory for an NFL wide receiver. I mean, McVay is 5'10" himself. Maybe he's just found the next gen analytics secret that says the best wide receivers are all from Keebler University. It sure seems to be working though so hard to hate on it. Here's a take: Kupp and Nacua might be the best wide receiver duo in the game.

Top Quarterbacks are finally making me look smart

For a couple years now I've been screaming from the mountain tops (acutally more like a deep valley since I'm a relative nobody) that you should draft a top-ADP QB earlier than you think because they have been consistently returning round 1 values. The first couple weeks were pretty shaky but this take is starting to shape up as Josh Allen is the overall #9 player. This dude has been worth a first round pick for I think three years in a row by my model. But it's not just him. Jalen Hurts is right up there too and Mahomes is at least giving 3rd round drafters a bit of value by being worth the second pick of Round 3.

Justin Fields enters the conversation

Then there's my favorite pre-season (totally not homer related, totally) QB value pick, Justin Fields. With four touchdowns in back-to-back games, he's showing he can actually play quarterback when his dumb shit coaching staff doesn't call wide receiver screens every other play. Everyone is expecting a let down game but I think this team might be heading towards the unimaginable. That being - somewhat competent.

Sam LaPorta

Rookie tight ends aren't supposed to be this good. Not fair at all. But I think we need to put this guy on watch for being the next Travis Kelce who was the next Rob Gronkowski who was the next Antonio Gates.

OK let's get to some what ifs. Take a drink for any player you had on this week's worst possible starting lineup for any player started in at least 30% of ESPN leagues.

Tough one for the Cowboys. Remember way back last week when I recommended maybe floating some sell high offers on them? Say good-bye to that now. Anyway, if you're team shat the bed this week hopefully seeing this atrocity of a potential realisitc lineup helps a little bit.

Then again, this team you could have picked up Sunday morning from the free agent pool hungover in bed (Thursday morning for Logan Thomas) probably won't help you feel better.

Humble brag but I've heard of at least half of the guys on this team. I think. The ultimate "fuck it" lottery combination for Week 5. Who will come out of nowhere in Week 6? We'll find out soon enough.
