The NCAA Finally Does What It Should Have Done Two Months Ago And Gives UNC's Tez Walker An Eligibility Waiver
Better late than never, I guess. All Tez Walker had to do after moving closer to his family so his sick grandmother could watch him play was miss North Carolina's first four games before the NCAA decided maybe it would be alright to let him play.
I understand cracking down on multi-time transfers as the portal has gotten a little bit out of control and college football has developed its own version of free agency, but this case is very clearly not anything close to that. Walker transferred from North Carolina Central to Kent State after being unable to play in a single game due to NC Central's 2020 season being canceled and then transferred to UNC to be closer to his family. How this situation ever made it this far into the season is beyond me.
I don't know what additional information UNC needed to provide the NCAA to make this happen and why it didn't do that from the start, but however we got here, it's just good that the right outcome was finally reached — even if it took way too long. Everybody in the country will be rooting for this kid and he's going to get an incredible ovation after his first catch in Chapel Hill this Saturday.
