I'll tell ya what, man. Only the NBA would find a way to bring free agency to the Olympics. An international competition for the greatest athletes in the world to compete for their home country. Meanwhile, you have Team USA, Team France and Team Cameroon all trying to put together the best offers on the table to get Joel Embiid on their roster. This league.

And you know what? I'm sure there are plenty of folks out there who are going to give Embiid shit for turning his back on his country. I'm sure there are even more folks in Cameroon right now who probably feel like he abandoned them. But let's be honest with ourselves--this is the only chance that Joel Embiid has of locking down a championship. It's an all-time business decision for the big fella right now.

The Sixers are as far away as humanly possible of being a serious NBA organization, let alone an actual title contender. This team is so dysfunctional, and they just got lapped by the rest of the Eastern Conference in the offseason while their guard was in China repeatedly calling the GM a liar. I don't know how you drop any further than the Sixers have fallen, but this feels like rock bottom. So he sure as shit isn't winning a championship here. Obviously he could always get traded and try to win somewhere else, but that's far from being a lock.

But this super team that USA is putting together for the 2024 Olympics? Every game is going to be -46.5. It's going to be the most egregious slaughter of a competition as there's ever been. Wake up, eat breakfast, win a basketball game by 50 points, eat dinner, go to sleep, rinse and repeat. So say what you want about the guy, but Joel Embiid is here to add a few championships to his resume. If he has to switch over to the dark side and play for LeBron's empire in Paris, then so be it. American Hero.
