ESPN Is Set To Launch Their Version Of Redzone For The NHL Showing Every Goal, Hit, and Power-Play
I love hockey. I love that ESPN/Hulu lets you watch any game you want. I really like John Buccigross. I think I hate this idea. I will reserve judgement until I actually experience it, but I have two objections...
1) a version of this already exists on NHL Network. NHL On The Fly does a pretty good job of live cut-ins, analysis, and highlights in virtually real time. I don't think there's a need for another program on top of that.
2) I am kind of with Feitelberg on Redzone
Buccigross is as fit as they come, but I don't think Michael Phelps has the lung capacity to do an NHL highlight show like this. He's never going to take a breath. Gonna need Melrose and Steve Levy ready to hop the boards after like 45 seconds. Work in shifts to host that show because showing every highlight from every single game in real time is worse than the V-o2 test.
I don't think this is going to work or be enjoyable to watch, but I like that ESPN is trying things to promote hockey. This "Frozen Frenzy" a nice gesture towards the league that owns their rights. Better than last year where they couldn't even mix the sound properly on ESPN+.
