Inspired by the vibrant heyday of southern music, while also ushering in a new era of rock-and-roll that is as distinctive as the men who form it. Brandon Coleman (lead vocals/guitar), Drew Nix (vocals/electric guitar/harmonica), Zach Rishel (electric guitar), Andrew Bishop (bass), and John Hall (drums), blend their unique individualities and influences to create a sound with a rare sincerity that isn’t often seen in today’s industry. After spending the past six years cutting their teeth in the Gulf Coast music scene while simultaneously running the roads discovering who they are and where they belong in the world, The Red Clay Strays are taking the world by storm with their music, one performance at a time.
In my opinion, there's not too much better on this Earth than finding a new band that you really like. You hear the first note and you sit up a little straighter and start listening a little more intently. That's exactly what happened here.
If you've followed me a for a while, you know I'm a huge red clay, outlaw, appalacian country guy. I love shit like Childers, Colter Wall, Zach Bryan, Lost Dog Street Band, Osbourne Brothers, and a shit ton of bluegrass. So when this southern rock with a new flair and a touch of soul, rock, blues, and country all mixed together in a wonderful pot that that's kinda like St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Orville Peck, and Marcus King with a touch of Elvis vibes showed up on my feed, I ran to Spotify to check out more. I was sitting at the airport like this.
I think one of the things that I like about these artists is that it seems like they are making a real effort to make albums and not just singles. There's a flow. Storytelling is actually good. The Red Clay Strays do a great job of that. They stay on a theme and you can kind of expect what is coming next, but at the same time, it still surprises you because it's just that good.
Anyway, the Red Clay Strays fuck and I fuck with them.
