Miami TE Cam McCormick Is Looking To Seek A NINTH YEAR Of Eligibility

Nothing says "Football Guy" quite like petitioning to play your NINTH YEAR of college football. He's the Bert Kreischer of athletes. He's just never going to go away. I understand that we live in a much different age of college football, but I'm still slightly baffled about how something like this can happen. That's not meant to be a knock on McCormick, but eligibility runs out eventually, doesn't it? I guess not.

Whenever a story like this comes around, I do something of deep dive to see why and how this ended up happening. McCormick was a member of the 2016 recruiting class. He originally committed to Oregon, where he played his first seven years (I laughed as I wrote that). He's been unsurprisingly riddled with injuries. His history looks something like this

2017- Missed most of the season with rhabdomyolysis

2018- Missed most of the season with a broken ankle

2019 and 2020- Missed the entire year with the same broken ankle

2021- Played two games before rupturing his Achilles 

2022- Played entire season for Oregon

2023- Transferred to Miami. Has played in first three games.

That is an insane rap sheet. Honestly, reading that back out loud, I really hope the NCAA does the right thing and gives him a ninth year. Just based on perseverance alone, this guy deserves the entire world. How is this guy still upright? We weren't talking about a few bumps or bruises that kept him out several games. These are serious injuries occurring back to back to back. He's still going strong at age 25.

An interesting wrinkle in the story is that the Pac-12 actually granted McCormick a ninth year of eligibility a season ago before he transferred out of Oregon. Now, it's up to the ACC to make a decision on their own. I feel like it would be kind of a bad look at this point if they turned him down.

I feel like the best course of action for McCormick is to play into it. Grow a big ass beard and look like Hugh Jackman in "Logan" if you have to. I genuinely hope he gets another year. I remember there was a time in which six years of eligibility seemed like a long shot. Nine is insanity, but I'm all here for it.
