Great. There's A New Hitch Hiking Robot To Worry About In Philly. Introducing PopeBot
6ABC – A few weeks ago, hitchBOT’s journey may have ended in Philadelphia, but a new robot has set out to prove the city is safe for all robotkind. Meet Pope Bot. The bot made its debut on the Preston and Steve Show on radio station WMMR Monday morning.
“It’s a test to see if the average person or people of Philadelphia are kind enough, gentle enough to treat Pope Bot with respect and take it from place to place and have it be just fine,” radio host Preston Elliot said.
When hitchBOT was brutally murdered in the streets of Philadelphia a few shorts weeks ago, it was a huge win for humanity. As previously mentioned, I believe in the old saying that it’s 3 strikes and you’re out at the old ball game. Well hitchBOT was 1) a robot 2) a free loader who thought it could just travel the world on everyone else’s dime and 3) a Canadian. You’re fucking out, hitchBOT. And I’m still proud of my fellow Philadelphians for doing the right there by killing it (even though it later turned out to just be a publicity stunt). But now, thanks to the people over at the Preston & Steve Show, there’s a new hitch hiking robot in the city to deal with.
Now out of respect for the good people at WMMR, I’m going to give PopeBot a fair chance at life here. If this was hitchBOT 2 we were talking about then sure, I’d be calling for this thing’s head. But let’s just give PopeBot the benefit of the doubt for now. Only because he’s a hometown kid. I don’t necessarily agree with what PopeBot stands for. The people of Philadelphia aren’t kind, gentle and respectful. That’s what makes us who we are. We shouldn’t have to pretend to be something we’re not just because Cool Pope Franky is on the way. But for now, PopeBot is good to go in my books. Until any Terminator type shit starts going down. Then PopeBot is immediately on the shit list.
Gadzooks, PopeBot.
