The Mariners Finished August With 21 Wins, More Wins Than Any Month During Their 116-46 2001 Season

21 wins in August, the Mariners just set their franchise record for wins in a month. 21-6, not too shabby. You see that mark and then think that it's crazy considering they had the best regular season team of all time, the 2001 Mariners. You may not be old enough to remember this but the Mariners were a wagon that year. They went 116-46 and then lost in the ALCS to the Yankees in a whooping. This 2023 team just bad a better month than that record setting team ever had. That team had 2 Hall of Famers AND Jamie Moyer on that team, this team isn't built anything like that squad but they never, ever lose. It really has been an incredible month for them. Maybe hosting the All-Star game kick started it? Who knows, but they have been on fire in the second half.

They were 1 game above .500 at the All-Star break and since then have gone 31-13. That is an insane run for a team that was playing literally average baseball. They also sold at the deadline! They traded their closer to the Diamondbacks! They almost traded Teoscar Hernandez!!! Sold at the deadline and then had the best month in their franchise history which includes a team that won 116 games. They've jumped the Rangers in the standings and now sit in first place. They are a scary, scary team led by Julio Rodriguez who is an absolute bonafide stud. But they are scary right now and have a massive 4 game set with the Rays starting next week. But until then, they enter September in first place for the first time since....2001. Last year they won the division? 200. Last time they hosted an All-Star Game? You guessed it, 2001. Things may be aligning for the team in the PNW. Record setting month for the kids, quite a squad they have.
