Joe Montana Says Dan Marino Is The Best QB Of All Time, Sorry Tom!

Joe Montana chose violence today. Joe recently did an interview with Men's Health and said that Dan Marino, not Tom Brady, is the best QB of all time.

I don't know if he's upset that Tom has more rings than he does, or if Joe Montana just knows more about the game than I do.

To be fair to Joe's comments, he did say Marino is the BOAT, and that there's a difference between the BOAT and the GOAT. However, even after listening to the interview, it still sounded like Joe had Marino higher than Brady on his GOAT list.

Look, I bleed aqua and orange; I never saw Dan play, and I still love him like a father, but I could never say he's the GOAT over Tom. The guy has 7 freaking Super Bowls. But there's no question Dan was way more talented than Tom. If Dan Marino played in the same era as Tom, he probably would have won multiple Super Bowls, but he didn't and that's just how the cookie crumbles. Joe brought up that if Dan played in this era of football where you can't hit the QB, wide receivers get a free release, and they're simply more athletic, Dan would have been Tom, if not better. Joe's got a point there. Marino played in a wishbone offense; there was no shotgun, and if there was, it was for one or two plays at most. People don't realize how insane it was or still is to throw for over 5,000 yards and 48 touchdowns in one season, and that was all the way back in 1984! However, Tom did what Marino never could, and that was win a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, he did more than just win one; he won 7. Do I think Dan was better than Tom as a pure passing QB? Absolutely. But would I put him over Tom in the GOAT conversation? I can't say I would.
