A Bunch Of Top Golfers In The World Think The Tour Championship Setup Should Be Changed ... Give Us Match Play For The Title

[Source] - “We can come up with something better,” Jon Rahm said.

The system flows down to 30th place, which starts at even par. “I’ve joked a decent amount about being No. 1, you don’t get any extra strokes,” said Scheffler. “And you show up this week, and I do get some extra strokes. So, it’s a bit strange.”

Xander Schauffle called the format confusing: “This is supposed to be like our most important event all year. … For people to be a little bit confused, it’s still not a finished product.”

Alright we got the Tour Championship starting today down at East Lake. I think we all know how it's set up but in case you don't it's the top 30 guys in the standings, with a staggered stroke start. Scheffler, ranked number 1, starts with a 2 stroke lead at -10. Winner after 4 rounds gets the $18 million prize. Not a bad deal.

But people, including the top golfers in the world, thinks it can be better. I'm simply saying this as a fan. I'm not bringing in ads, TV, all that shit. Give me match play. Make it the top-32 go to East Lake and you play seeded like any other tournament in sports. I know, I know, it's not the type of golf they play every single week, but from a fan standpoint? Yeah, I'd be into this.

I love match play golf. We've been getting it once a year at Austin but that's up in the air going forward. The point is we all love brackets and we'd have one. You still have the first two playoff events set up as normal. I mean yeah it's not a finished product, but why not throw in some match play for the title? Hell, you can have a ton of matches over the 4 days because you still need purse money for everything else.

Like I said, I'm not smart enough to come up with a better solution than the handicapped stroke start. I'm simply a man who watches golf every week and would love to see some match play for something more than one tournament and the Ryder Cup/Presidents Cup. I know match play isn't the most fair, especially to determine the Tour Champion, but upsets happen all the time in sports.

All I know is I see guys saying it could be better and I'm just trying to throw out an idea here. One blogger wants match play, I don't ask for much.
