It Turns Out ‘Swamp Kings’ Just Sucks Off Urban Meyer For 3 Hours
I don’t remember the last time I was as excited for a documentary’s release as I was for Netflix’s Swamp Kings, a four-part series that was billed as a tell-all about the Urban Meyer era at Florida. As it turns out, the “documentary” is just a four-hour fellating of Meyer.
This thing had such incredible potential to really dive into what was one of the most insane and unhinged programs in college football history and instead just lauded Meyer for being able to bring the spread option to the SEC and have success. Give me a fucking break. If you didn’t know anything about college football and watched this, you’d think every program in the country was crazy for not firing its head coach tomorrow and hiring Meyer with a week to prepare for the season — don’t give Auburn any ideas, they might do it.
Nobody cares about Meyer winning two national championships. We know Florida was great. UF had one of the most morally questionable groups of people ever assembled — complete with a convicted murderer — led by one of the most prominent Christians in the country and all we got were season recaps you could read on Wikipedia.
And in the five minutes where some of the arrests and legal troubles are mentioned, it quickly turns into another chance for Meyer to look like the good guy for refusing to kick players off the team and giving them unlimited chances. It’s crazy.
Most of the docs in the Untold series are outstanding, which is why I’m shocked this one is a puff piece for such a known scumbag. I’m not mad, just disappointed.
