2 out of 3 People Would Like To See The Chicago White Sox Move To Nashville
My X profile isn't the most objective but we can draw a conclusion from the numbers and it's not great.
The developments are apparently worse:
Chatter among team insiders is that the White Sox are seriously considering a move outside Chicago because Chicago has limited options to accommodate Jerry Reinsdorf's demands.
If you're willing to accept the assumption that they want out of Guaranteed Rate, then you need to equally embrace the CONCLUSION that includes other markets. And everyone knows MLB is dying to get a franchise into Nashville.
Most of us have that pegged for expansion - MLB has long wanted to add 2 more teams for an even 32. Nashville has firmly held one of those two spots and relocating the White Sox would probably be Nashville's #1 choice if they use common sense down there. Even amidst their demise, you can't tell me expansion would be any easier. Starting from scratch blows.
MLB would want it.
Jerry probably.
Nashville, absolutely.
But what about the White Sox diehards?
There's a bunch of these sentiments. Sensible, understanding, frustrated yet devoted fans that would be DEVASTATED. People smart enough to see it won't get better for the long-term, ever.
Stepping back - I want to spend a minute on stadium options in Chicago:
There's plenty of space and designs, whatever. But someone has to pay and most new stadiums flow through public financing. If you think that's a possibility in Chicago, you're painfully ignorant to the city's financial plight. I sincerely believe we'd declare bankruptcy on generations of pensions (after amending state legislature) before doing a public stadium for the White Sox.
Those odds are priced slightly worse than World Peace.
So would Jerry put up the money himself? Absolutely not.
Is there a suburban location for the White Sox? MAYBE but it's nowhere near the south side of Chicago.
The Yorkville White Sox doesn't sound right
And more seriously, the Sox would likely be forced to play north of I-290. Extremely hard to believe, but maybe the best option if Reinsdorf doesn't sell and Guaranteed Rate is written off.
But would he sell?
We've long said no. But if that happens, then you need to cross your fingers the new owner WANTS to keep the White Sox in Chicago. Some hometown dude with billions of dollars. Maybe Larry Gies?
You have to imagine any new buyer is going to compare Chicago to Nashville, and that's a pretty unfavorable comparison over the next 20 years. It's been a bad one for the last 10. Who could reasonably argue otherwise?
Only one group: Chicago White Sox fans.
Some rumors have included Michael Jordan. Others say this is just a PR move in the ordinary course of business.
But the real sauce is that we're talking about it. Even in the infancy stages. It's still a story and the fact Jerry Reinsdorf has operated the White Sox in a way to make this a story…
Now that's the real story.
And it's really fucked up.

Good luck to all my White Sox fans out there.
Sincerely.
