"The Maddux" Is One Of The Coolest Stats In Baseball
On Monday's episode of Pardon My Take... GREG MADDUX! The Hall of Famer joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter on the show to discuss this year's MLB postseason race, some of his crazy stats, and Shohei Ohtani.
Speaking of stats, Maddux has a statistic in baseball named after him. It is called... wait for it... "The Maddux" - when a pitcher throws a shutout of nine or more innings with fewer than 100 pitches. Easy to track, but hard to accomplish. During this week's interview, the guys asked Maddux about this very cool stat.
Maddux (obviously) has the most "Maddux's" in MLB history with 13 of them over his 22-year career in Major League Baseball. Here is a list of the most recent Maddux's (and yes, there is a direct correlation to Perfect Games and No-Hitters)
2023: Framber Valdez
2023: Domingo German
2022: Jordan Montgomery
2022: Patrick Sandoval
2021: Ranger Suárez
2021: Max Fried
2021: Germán Márquez
To put in perspective how elite Greg Maddux was at doing this, the active leader of "The Maddux" right now is Shelby Miller, who has just three of them. Again, Maddux had 13! Just an insane stat named after an insane pitcher.
