Spittin' Chiclets Fans And Stoolies Raise $100K For FDNY & NYPD Charities
Back in April, Barstool and Spittin' Chiclets broadcasted the FDNY/NYPD hockey game from UBS Arena and it was one of the coolest things we've been a part of in 7.5 years of the podcast. We sold merch with all of the proceeds going to both teams and others made donations.
A few weeks ago, Grinnelli told me to book my train to NYC because we were going to present checks to both teams. I never mind shooting down to HQ for a night but as the son of a retired Boston jake, it was an honor to make this trip. Heading over to Brooklyn, I almost shit when G told me how much was raised. We had just over $50,000 for each team that will go to Widows & Children funds and several other charities.

We had a nice gathering and the presentations at the Engine 216/Ladder 108/Battalion 35 house in Williamsburg and the 90th Precinct right next door. The boys hooked it up with a ton of pizza and soft drinks and gave us tours of the house. The bunkhouse has the same BACKDRAFT poster that adorned my bedroom wall 30 years ago. Also it's interesting how much Boston firehouses and NYC firehouses look alike with those dull-yellowish walls, like they were all built by the same outfit. And I got to throw on the bunker gear.
Let's all be thankful I went the English major route.
The best part was seeing the genuine appreciation on the faces of the both the guys we know and those we just met. Working for either department is a tough job no matter where you are but I'm not sure there are many (any?) places that are as challenging as New York City. So it felt dynamite to make these guys feel good. We extend a huge 'thank you' to the fine folks at the FDNY and NYPD for risking their asses for the city's 8M+ residents every single day of every single year.
Of course, we also thank the many Spittin' Chiclets listeners and Stoolies who purchased a shirt/hat or made a donation to the cause. You guys and gals are the reason why $100K was raised. So kudos on another terrific job. Hopefully, we get to do it all over again next year.
And if the FDNY ever brings back their calendar of hunks, I'll take Mr. May.
