It's Time To Get To The Bottom Of The Olivia Rodrigo/Taylor Swift Rumored Feud

I've been thinking about this a long longer than my recent tweet, but now that we don't have the Eras Tour to distract us anymore, it's time to start asking questions. What happened to Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift?

Olivia has always been a MASSIVE fan of Taylor. Taylor, knowing this, put her stamp of approval on Olivia back in 2021, where they rubbed elbows at the Brit Awards and Taylor continued to praise her after that. Then, out of nowhere, it all stopped. Glaringly absent from the entire Eras tour, Olivia has completely stopped posting about Taylor.

I thought, okay, technically they are competing artists! They go after the same audience, and you can't constantly pump up your competition, even when you are a massive fan. I assumed Olivia was directed to cool it on the fandom, and Taylor was generally going on about her life. Until, that is, Taylor announced Sabrina Carpenter would be her opener for the entire international, and now second leg of, the Eras Tour.

Why does this matter? Sabrina Carpenter is the infamous "blonde girl" that Olivia sings about in her MONSTER hit, Driver's License.

Sabrina of course, had been dating Joshua Bassett at the time, after he seemingly dumped Olivia Rodrigo. Olivia went back to the Taylor Swift school of breakup songs, and put out a major hit. Sabrina answered with her own version of events, in the song "Skin":

Shots fired!

So, safe to say Olivia and Sabrina have beef. I don't know if Taylor has ever even acknowledged Sabrina before announcing her as a part of her tour before, and to me, that's what we call the plot thickening.

Olivia is such a fan of Taylor, that she's used several of her songs as "samples" on her album Sour. The one most obvious is within her song "1 step forward, 3 steps back" where Olivia uses the music from Taylor Swift's, "New Year's Day." One would think, they're friendly, surely Olivia asked Taylor if this was okay! I'm hearing rumors to the contrary. She may not have asked permission, she may not have credited Taylor correctly, the list goes on with this "song borrowing." Olivia also sample Paramore on her second smash hit, "Good 4 U." Banger. Did she credit them correctly? Who knows. All I know, is that Taylor is also very, very good friends with Hayley Williams. The dots are connecting in my mind.

Will we ever find out what actually happened? From where I sit, Olivia and Taylor have real, serious beef. To stop posting about your #1 FAVORITE artist in the world, out of nowhere, is crazy. I would've assumed maybe (gasp) Taylor did something to rub Olivia the wrong way. Then I remembered…she wouldn't be propping up someone's career, and then abruptly stop, without cause. She's EXTREMELY serious about stolen music and not crediting people properly. Not sure how Olivia wouldn't do everything in her power to make sure she was doing everything right!
