We Had A Nice Little Serving Of Humble Pie At The Little League Regionals Last Night

Williamsport, PA and the LLWS may tell you all about their endless propaganda of sliding down the hill and eating ice cream in the cabins etc etc. I always hated that crap as I felt it diminished how hard the kids worked to get there as well as how seriously they took competing. To me I always loved that the LLWS and Little League Regionals which are now televised also, teach kids life lessons. The most important of which is that things may not go your way in life no matter how hard you played or how well you prepared. Sometimes you just straight up don’t get the break you need. It’s a tough pill to swallow but I felt at Williamsport it always found its way to the forefront.

Another life lesson I consider important is to be humble and respect your opponents. The boys from Oklahoma learned that real quick last night, especially one player.

While things were going well for #99. Just. Take a look at some of his celebrations throughout the game.

Handshakes, home run celebrations, meditation, you name it he did it.

Different story in the 6th inning for 99 as it was his time to close out the game. That didn’t really go to plan. As you can see by the stat line.

0.1 inning … couldn’t find the zone and gave up a shot off the wall for the tie. Got pulled with a 3-0 count before leaving it up to his teammate who ended up walking in the winning run.

The face says it all

Just another example of honoring the code of baseball and respecting your opponents. The minute you start showboating and celebrating, the baseball gods will come get you. Also if you can dish it you better be able to take it that’s what I always say.
