Happy 20th Anniversary To The Best Show To Ever Be On Television, The OC

20 years definitely makes me want to gag, but a huge happy anniversary to one of my favorite shows of all time, The OC.

When this show came on TV, it was a can't-miss event every single week. I believe it aired on Wednesdays? All of my friends were into it, and I got my dad into it too. I remember the night (SPOILER) that Marissa died, I called my friend after the episode was over, and we just sobbed silently on the phone together. SO much drama. These people were our whole lives!! I was a MAJOR Seth Cohen stan, so much so that I owned a tank top that said "Mrs Seth Cohen" on it. I loved Ryan too, but he was always in trouble. Too much work. Marissa Cooper was an icon, Julie Cooper's AFFAIR WITH A TEENAGER goes under the radar these days, and Patriarch Caleb Nichol was a rich bad guy for the ages. I was a member of the OC Insider club, and I had all these magazines:

It was awesome. Here's a bit from the interview with the creator, Josh Schwartz:

“It was definitely in the air that it felt like there hadn’t been a new show like this in a while.” Enter Ryan Atwood, the handsome outsider from the wrong side of the tracks. His journey from grainy Chino to shiny Orange County introduced him (and viewers) to a world filled with secrets, McMansions, and Cohen-y Cohenisms. Over the course of its 27-episode first season, The O.C. became a teen phenomenon of its own. And it all began with one heck of a pilot."

And a phenomenon it was! I also think what added to the appeal was the fact Laguna Beach was on around the same time. We couldn't get enough of the rich kids in California, and The OC scratched the itch for all drama that couldn't be manufactured on the reality show. 10/10, and now I think I need to start watching from the beginning for the 20th time.
