Terence Crawford Just Took Errol Spence Jr. Behind The Woodshed

If you're a boxing writer, there is a good chance you are Googling a synonym for the word "dominated" right now because Terence Crawford absolutely "ruled the roost", "laid down the law", "rode roughshod over", "pushed around", "bullied", "intimidated", and "tyrannized" Errol Smith Jr. tonight.  In the process, he grabbed every strap in the division to become the undefeated and undisputed welterweight champion of the world.

I was so excited about this bout, I touted it as the best and most-even matchup boxing made in the last 25 years… It wasn't.

I placed a healthy wager that Bud would win by a decision because I felt Errol was close to Crawford's skill set, so he could at least weather the storm for 12 rounds… He couldn't.

The referee stepped in to stop this late in the ninth…

… But the fight was over far before that, and there's an argument Spence's corner should've thrown in the towel a couple of rounds prior.

Spence was on the receiving end of a flash knockdown in the second round and then was put down two more times in the seventh.  By the time Round 9 rolled in, Spence was getting hit with so many different punch combos from Bud, Errol must've felt like he was surrounded.

People are debating whether Errol's performance is reflective of his inability to fight at 147 anymore.  Some are saying he is not the same after the car wreck.  But this ass-whoopin' was not a product of fighting at the wrong weight and no credit should be given to the Ferrari he flipped in 2019.

Instead, all praise should be given to future hall-of-famer Bud Crawford who saved the best performance of his storied career for the highest-profile fight he's ever been involved with.  And although Spence indicated the rematch clause could be activated as soon as December, Errol's camp needs to reevaluate their fighter's trajectory because I don't give a shit if they fight the next one at 147 or 154 pounds… Crawford dominated their boy and would make easier work out of Errol if they were to meet again.
