Turns Out Soccer Fans Are Actually Horrible Sports Fans As They All Leave Stadium In Droves After Messi Got Subbed Out
You want to know why soccer will never fully take off in America? It's because of this right here. Turns out soccer fans are just a bunch of jabronis who don't give a hoot about sports at all. They're just a bunch of nerds who obsess over a few different players.
America is a sports nation. Always has been, and always will be. It's one of the biggest components of our culture. You'll get your occasional whack jobs who just follow LeBron around from city to city. But for the most part, Americans love the game more than they love the players. So if their favorite guy gets subbed out of the game with 15 minutes still left on the clock, they're not sprinting out of the stadium to try to beat the traffic leaving the stadium. You keep your ass parked in your seat until that final whistle.
To be fair...this was also in Miami. And they're not exactly known for sticking around for the full game.
That's a city filled with 500,000 people who would rather watch Messi play for the 10 seconds it takes to upload an Instagram story rather than for a full game but no social media posts at all. But that's besides the point.
The fact of the matter is that Messi coming to the MLS is proving the one thing we always knew to be true--we need to stop focusing on trying to grow soccer in America and instead, direct all that attention and energy towards lacrosse.
