Blackhawks Owner, Rocky Wirtz, Has Passed Away At The Age Of 70
Absolutely flooring news for the hockey world and Chicago sports. Rocky Wirtz, according to reports, has passed away at the age of 70. 70 is far too young in this age. My heart goes out to his family who lost their father and grandfather.
Rocky, more than anyone else, saved hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks. All the glory that came with the three Stanley Cups would not have been possible without his stewardship. When Rocky inherited the Blackhawks they were, without question, the worst organization in all of American sports. Rocky came in and changed everything for the better. No detail too small. No expense too great. The games were on TV, the building was full, and the banners were raised.
It was an incredible run under his direction and every fan in Chicago should be thankful for the memories made with their own friends and family that were centered around the Wirtz Family business. I didn't know Rocky personally, but long car rides to the United Center for 10 years helped me get to know my own dad better and I will always be grateful for that.
Rest in peace, Rocky. Thank you for the memories.
Prayers to his loved ones.
