If The United States Didn't Nuke Japan In August 1945, The Japanese Were Going To Bomb The West Coast With The Bubonic Plague
The movie and history in general was really focused on the argument for using atomic bomb in an effort to end the war without an invasion of mainland Japan. The fear was that Japan would fight so hard for their homeland. Every citizen taking up arms. Speculation is that America could lose a million soldiers in the invasion. Bomb the shit out of them and end the war without massive loss of American life. Seems simple enough.
Timing couldn't have been more perfect for the bomb because while we were working on nukes, the Japanese were working on bioweapons. We bombed them on August 6th and 9th, and the Japanese were planning on bombing California with MILLIONS OF PLAGUE INFECTED FLEAS. This was an idea that was born out of Unit 731 where the Japanese ran the most disturbing tests on humans ever devised.
Estimations are that as many as 500,000 Chinese died from biological warfare conducted by the Japanese.
You'll never believe the punishment the mastermind of these bioweapons got after Japan surrendered.
Recent studies suggest the number of Chinese killed by Japanese biological warfare may have been in excess of 500,000. Unit 731’s experiments constituted some of the most horrific atrocities of the war, yet Ishii was granted immunity from prosecution for war crimes in exchange for his cooperation in sharing knowledge with U.S. biological warfare defense programs.
Absolutely fucking nothing because our government gave him freedom in exchange for his knowledge. Absolutely disgusting.
Anyways, Operation Cherry Blossom was approved in March of 1945 with San Diego apparently going to be the first target. The only reason it was delayed until September was because Japan didn't have enough of the submarines and "float planes" needed to carry out the mission. If they had the submarines needed in March or April it possible that those scientists at Los Alamos would've gotten the bubonic fucking plague before completing the Trinity test. The entire Western United States was at risk.
We get into the aftermath of the atomic bomb being dropped, Korea, and the Cold War to follow in yesterday's dogwalk. Video below.
