Some Dork Had The Audacity To Call Rickie Fowler A 'Coward' During The Open Because He Backed Out Of A Group Who Invested In Leeds United

Ohh I'm sorry that Rickie Fowler is smart and decided to pull out of buying Leeds United because they got relegated. That's what happens when you're rich and can spend money as you please. This has nothing to do with me being a huge Rickie fan, he might be my favorite golfer on tour right now. But calling him a coward for not buying a team who got relegated? Maybe stay in the Premier League one time and we can have a different conversation.

[Source] - Fowler was initially set to be part of the ownership group who bought the club, but withdrew following their relegation from the Premier League.

“That’s a first. Maybe he should put up his own money.”

There were a number of different sporting stars involved in the deal to buy Leeds with Jordan Speith and Justin Thomas sticking with it despite relegation.

"Myself and Justin are involved with a minority stake," Spieth told Sky Sports. "Rickie decided, once they were relegated, that he was against it.

I'm not ruling out that this heckle is why Rickie went OB twice on 18 yesterday. Cost himself a good round. You get called a coward, that sticks in your mind. I don't care who you are, you don't want to be called a coward. Think about when you were a kid. You could easily be convinced to do something by having someone make a chicken sound at you. That still applies when you're in your 30s. I actually kind of want Rickie Fowler to buy another team just out of spite now. Plus he can create a rivalry with his best friends.

At the same time, I do think we need to mix in some heckling in golf. I'm not saying screaming in backswings like the guy did to Mardy Fish in Tahoe, but some sportsmanship and mind games should be a thing. Just not against my guy Rickie. You can't blame him for not investing in Leeds United when they got relegated. Seems like a no-brainer to back out right then and there.
