And Here We Go! - Magic Johnson Says A Commanders Team Name Change Is A Possibility

Ding ding ding! And off we go!

We knew this was going to become a thing. Why wouldn't it? The team name has been a subject, a point of contention, a part of the news every day for the last decade. So now that there are new owners in town (SIDE NOTE: HOLY SHIT IT STILL IS UNREAL), of course the conversation will immediately go to the team name.

Here's my thoughts- I don't think bringing back "Redskins" is in the cards. Now I could be wrong, but I would be very surprised based on everything that has happened and the fact that bringing it back would mean the team name debate would continue forever. So if the name changes, we'll kinda be back where we are now- with a name that some people think is fine, that some people are indifferent about, that some like, that some hate.

I've written this opinion before- I don't think the team name matters all too much. It's more about the culture and representing the city. There are plenty of terribly stupid team names out there that we all ignore and don't even realize are stupid because they've been around for so long. Cleveland Browns? Los Angeles Lakers? Cincinnati Reds? Let's not kid ourselves, most team names are pretty lame. Does anyone go into Detroit to play the Lions thinking "ohhhh Lions are scary!!! Not the Lions, anyone but the Lions!!!". Of course not.

Team name is rather irrelevant when you have a winning product on the field. Nobody will talk about the name if Sam Howell is leading the team to the playoffs.

I have no idea if they will change the name or not. Let's just win games and not worry about it.

PS: If the name does change, Major Tuddy gotta stay. Respect Major Tuddy or else.
