Mayra Bueno Silva Tapped Out Holly Holm With A SLICK Ninja Choke In Last Night's UFC Main Event
Mayra Bueno Silva picked up the biggest win of her life in last night's UFC main event, where she tapped out Holly Holm with a SLICK Ninja Choke in the second round, skyrocketing her into the vacant bantamweight title picture.
I would've blogged it last night, but the main event ended at like 12:45am EST and staying up that late for a Holly Holm fight in the year of our lord 2023 was torture enough - no disrespect. Plus, I'm staying with family this weekend and had a nephew find out about Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy all in one fell swoop in the middle of the card thanks to the Adam Sandler/Kevin James comedy classic, 'Grown Ups', and that took a lot outta me.

Seriously, though, Mayra Bueno Silva looked great in that fight and handed Holm only the second submission loss of her career - the first being that badass moment where she chose to black-out over tapping-out at UFC 196….
….and again, no disrespect to Holm, but I hope this is the end of her run as a main eventer. Throw her on a card or in a co-main, I don't care - but no more main events.
I know she knocked out Ronda Rousey and everyone knows her name because of that, but this run is just not worthy of building cards around in my opinion - not even at the Apex….
At the post-fight presser, Mayra Bueno Silva had a hilarious reaction to Julianna Pena saying she could beat her and Raquel Pennington in one night….
….and she did some great promo for herself by basically shitting on the Julianna Pena/Raquel Pennington matchup all week, saying nobody would watch that fight.

I think she could potential be a really big star if she keeps winning, and getting past the eternal gatekeeper that is Holly Holm was a big step towards that. Happy for her.
P.S. Ninja Choke is one of the coolest submission names. Then again, most submissions have pretty sick names; Kimura, Americana, Calf Crusher, Anaconda, Twister, Guillotine, Bow and Arrow Choke, the god damn PERUVIAN NECKTIE!!
Who tf named the rear-naked choke tho? How did THAT become the name for what is basically the fastball of subs? I feel like The Mata Leão (aka The Lion Killer in Portuguese) shoulda been the name that stuck, and if not that - The Sleeper Hold.
Any time a non-MMA fan hears "rear-naked choke" they react like it's called "these-men-are-naked-and-choking-each-other choke". It's confusing for them.
