Numbers Never Lie: Umpires Have Screwed Over Adley Rutschman More Than Any Other Batter In Baseball This Year

Here is something I've learned over the last 200 or so Orioles games.... If Adley Rutschman doesn't think it's a strike, it's not a strike. And this video above from Codify (incredible follow on twitter) shows it. Adley has had the most out-of-zone pitches called strikes out of every player in baseball this season with a whopping 50. 50!!! 50 times umpires have looked at a ball that clearly isn't a strike and in fact has called it a strike.

Why is Adley being punished like this? I get it when it was Judge for a few years, his strike zone is to big because he's so big. But with Adley...what the hell? Is he being punished for being such a good pitch framer on the other end? Why were 50 of his at-bats ruined by ego chasing umpires? I think he's being punished for how good he is, that is the only thing that I can put my finger on. He's 5th in baseball in walks, 2nd in the AL, so I think it's safe to say he has a great eye. Guy knows what is a strike and what isn't, and none of these are strikes. Almost like the umpires are out to get him. But all he does is keep his mouth closed and keeps playing great baseball. Traits of a leader, let's just see how bad the umpires try and come for him in the second half.
