Israel Adesanya vs Dricus Du Plessis AKA The Battle of Africa Is Going To Be One Of The Biggest Fights In UFC History

UFC 290 was incredible start to finish. Easily the card of the year so far and It’s gonna be very hard to top it. Four KOs inside of a minute. One of them being the legend Robbie Lawler with a story book level send off. Another being blue chip prospect and three time college wrestling national champion Bo Nickal only using his fists to finish his opponent in a matter of seconds. Multiple huge underdogs came out on top including Dricus Du Plessis upsetting Robert Whittaker and setting up a MASSIVE battle for Africa fight between DDP and the middleweight champ Israel Adesanya. It also featured an absolute war of a fight between Dan Hooker and Jalin Turner and one of the better title fights in recent memory between Brandon Moreno and Alexandre Pantoja. All capped off by a dominant performance from the pound for pound king Alexander Volkanovski.

The biggest long term impact from this card is definitely the fruition of what seems most likely to be the next Middleweight title fight. Besides McGregor, Izzy has become probably the top draw in MMA right now besides maybe Jon Jones who’s last fight is highly likely to be at MSG in November. Izzy and DDP genuinely don‘t like each other after DDP took his stance of being the REAL African In the UFC (he‘s born, raised and lives/trains in South Africa). Izzy is of Nigerian descent and was born there but moved to New Zealand at the age of 10. They had a wildly contentious face off in the cage after DDP knocked out Whittaker.

Cringe or not cringe, whatever you think about the exchange, it is GREAT for the fight game.
