DEAR JAMES GUNN: Please Don't Waste Rachel Brosnahan on Lois Lane Like Zack Snyder With Amy Adams

If you're not familiar with David Corenswet, you're not alone. He's far from a household name and the last thing I remember seeing him in was 'Pearl' which he was pretty good in. But you know what? That is the beauty of Superman. You don't NEED a big name to play him because, at the end of the day, Superman is a pretty one-dimensional, black-and-white character. That is why you can get away with a (relatively) no-name casting like Henry Cavill last time. If he sucks, it's whatever because it's not like we were all dying to see Corensweat's next project.

However, that's not the case with Rachel Brosnahan. She absolutely crushed every season of 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' and buckets of awards won/nominations can back that up. She is someone I am really excited to see in another project that allows her to show off some range. Is Lois Lane that? I don't see it. Just look at Amy Adams. By most accounts, an ELITE-level actress. Does anyone, and I mean ANYONE, remember her as Lois Lane? Is anyone saying "Oh, Amy Adams? The actress from 'Man of Steel?'". No. Because that character is 3rd, MAYBE 2nd fiddle to the big man himself.

And thats not to say top-tier actresses shouldn't be in superhero movies. Margot Robbie is one of the very few bright spots from the DCU in her role as Harley Quinn & is arguably the best portrayal of a female comic book character.. Whats the big difference there? Harley Quinn is about as great of a sandbox as you could ask for as an actress. Range out the wazoo. I just don't see that in Lois Lane.

Now, James Gunn clearly gets superhero movies more than just about anyone & I'm sure he will make me look like a stupid, bumbling idiot in 3 or 4 years when this comes out. The path there will be by effectively using Lane as the emotional anchor for Superman, which is something Zack Snyder failed to do (still love him, though). But in my extremely selfish audience member opinion, would I rather see her spending 4-6 months filming this or making prestige movies/TV? That's a no brainer. For her, picking the big-budget role that will pay her a shit-ton and put her on the map is also a no-brainer.

Anyway, maybe I'm just being a downer because most live-action superhero movies over the last couple years have been disappointments. Especially in DC and ESPECIALLY with 'The Flash', which James Gunn praised as being one of the best superhero movies he has ever seen. And, again, the waste of Amy Adams on the same role also doesn't help. Shoot me a tweet calling me a crybaby bitch and let me know the fears are unfounded.
