You Can Call It Desperation Or Smelling Blood In The Water But Either Way The Guardians Are Once Again Calling Up Some Of Their Best Prospects

The AL Central is a giant steaming pile of dog crap and the Guardians are a silver dollar the dog accidentally ate. They're still super crappy but they're the only team that would be worth anything come playoff time.

And they know this. No one in the Central is over .500 and despite having a historically bad offense for the first 2+ months of the season they are only two games back of the Twins. I mean look at this train wreck of a division.

There has been times the Guardians look like a little league team trying to hit high school pitching. Jose Ramirez inexplicably had no power, Andres Gimenez would probably have been sent down had he not just signed a huge extension, and the two guys they brought in to add power (Josh Bell and Mike Zunino) provided less pop than a single mom who is super into yoga and crystals.

We get it, pop is terrible for you, but let little Moonbeam be a god damn kid and enjoy a root beer.

But all of a sudden the tide is starting to turn on the one thing that had easily been holding them back the most. They are one of two teams with better than a .300. bating average the last two weeks and 9th in team OPS since the start of June.

And because of that the Guardians have called up two of their top five prospects in the last few days. Catcher Bo Naylor and starter Gavin Williams.

Bo had 13 home runs and 48 RBI before he was called up from triple A and will hopefully add some power to the lineup. Because outside of Jose's recent tear only his brother Josh Naylor has given this team anything in that department. He currently leads all first baseman in RBI and is second on the team (behind Ramirez) with 8 dingers.

Plus, Naylor coming up meant Zunino packed his shit and left, which is a double win. I'm also dreaming of some kind of tandem Naylor celebration. Maybe they will rip their jerseys off and head butt each other after a home run. Would save Tito from taking another beating.

The new kid who will be starting tomorrow's game against the Oakland A's is Gavin Williams. He was 4-2 this season with a 2.39 ERA and 81 Ks in 61.3 innings. In case you don't know them are some mighty good numbers. The kid is absolutely filthy.

I wrote after Tristan McKenzie came back from the IL (which he now back on, fuck me) that the rest of the Central should be shaking in their boots. I still stand by that even though they have made zero headway after going 5-5 in their last 10 games.

Everyone knows the Guardians have a late June, early July run in them. They do it every year. And if they rattle off 10 of 12 they will be in full control of the division and never look back. And just like last year when they called up more rookies than anyone else, it might be the young bucks who make it happen once again.
