'Please, Everybody Shut The Fuck Up': 0.1 WAR Javy Báez Is Sick Of Being Booed In Detroit

Javier Báez has had enough.

It's been a rough year for the Tigers' shortstop, who's hitting .224 with a .584 OPS and just 0.1 WAR on the season. And Báez was hearing it from his home crowd after turning what should have been a double play in Detroit's game against the Braves on Monday night into just one out — though it was a fairly impressive recovery from his own fuck-up to get an out at all and may have been a pretty huge play in what ended up being a 6-5 Tigers win. That's when the cameras caught him expressing his frustration at the fans who were booing their shortstop who's in the second year of a six-year, $140 million contract.

It's completely understandable why Báez is frustrated with the Detroit fans, but when you're making $22 million this year and have a 62 wRC+, nine errors (tied for third-most in the Major Leagues) and have a highlight of you flailing at a slider in the other batter's box every night, the fans are justified to boo. If you don't like it, don't play like shit.

I would say Báez might be looking to opt out of his contract after this season to get out of Detroit, but nobody in their right mind is giving up $98 million with stats like he has right now. Get used to the booing, pal.
