The Golden State Dynasty Is Now At A Bit Of A Crossroads After Bob Myers Decides To Step Down As The GM Of The Warriors

Some pretty big news coming this morning out of Golden State, and I think when we first saw this tweet yesterday

everyone had a pretty good idea of what this meant. The future of Warriors GM Bob Myers had been a topic all season for GS, with more and more signs pointing to him stepping down. As it turned out, that's exactly what happened

His contract expired in June, and as Woj explained he declined ownership's offers on a new deal that would have made him one of the highest paid GMs in the league (and for good reason). Sometimes things are about more than money and it's pretty clear there were outside factors that led to Myers making this decision.

The interesting part is this news comes at a pretty important summer for the Warriors. Draymond Green has until 6/29 to either pick up or decline his $27M player option, and that's a fairly huge domino for how the Warriors are going to look. If he declines it and enters UFA, do the Warriors find a way to bring him back? You know he wants max money or close to it, and he's about to enter his age 33 season. Given how complicated their cap sheet is, that's not exactly a clear cut decision as to what the Warriors should do.

There's also the question of what the Warriors should do in terms of a retooling effort. Do you try and trade Jordan Poole? I can't imagine there are many takers for that deal, but he is still young. Or, do you look at scenarios to potentially move guys like Kuminga or Moody to help bring in more win now talent to maximize the Curry window? What do they do about Klay Thompson who is about to enter the final year of his contract and is an UFA next year?

As you can see, there are a lot of front office decisions to figure out this summer, and the Warriors will now have to do it without the architect of their dynasty. I wonder if Myers saw the writing on the wall with his roster given their age and salary cost, took a look at the future of the CBA, and said you know what? I gotta get out of here.

For all we know, this could be the first domino of what will be the unraveling of this Warriors dynasty. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but with an aging core and then the guy who built the roster leaving, it's not crazy to think the Warriors do what they can to reset. It's also possible that whoever takes over believes in committing big money to Draymond/Klay moving forward. That's what makes this summer so interesting for the Warriors. They kind of have to pick a lane, and they'll now need to do that with a new leader of the front office.

It goes without saying that Bob Myers tenure in GS was nothing short of spectacular. The dude won 4 titles. The way GS managed their cap was how they were able to pounce and bring in KD. Flipping him for DLo, and then flipping DLo for Andrew Wiggins won them another title. Every single franchise in the NBA would kill for a run like GS has had under Myers' watch.

Who knows, maybe after some time off he decides he's ready to come back, in which case he'll have his choice of whatever job he wants. You build a team like this, NBA teams are going to be interested
