The World Video Game Hall Of Fame Should Be Ashamed Of Themselves For Not Putting In Goldeneye 007

UPI-  The World Video Game Hall of Fame in Buffalo, N.Y., announced its 2023 inductees are Barbie Fashion Designer, Computer Space, The Last of Us and Wii Sports.

The World Video Game Hall of Fame, part of The Strong National Museum of Play, announced the four titles were chosen from a field of finalists that included Age of Empires, Angry Birds, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, FIFA International Soccer, Goldeneye 007, NBA 2K, Quake and Wizardry.

The enshrined games will be displayed at the Hall of Fame's new home, which is scheduled to open June 30.

I mean come on folks ! What are we doing here ?

First let's talk about some of the other omissions. Angry Birds was definitely a flash in the pan, but it's had it's moment. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was a banger. Soccer is a waste of grass, but FIFA was one of the most played sports games of all time, and still to this day, put the whole franchise in as a package and no one would blink an eye. NBA 2K ... strongggggggg. All 1000% worthy of hall of fame election and for sure mention of potentially getting in. No qualms about any of those.

Let's also talk about the other actual Hall of Fame selections. I'm not even going to pretend i know what Computer Space and The Last of Us are. Wii Sports was revolutionary in that it allowed you to feel like you were controlling the movements via the handheld controller. It also provided a shitload of videos of people breaking their televisions.

The real crux of the story here is this. How on earth does a PC game like Barbie Fashion Designer get in over a MONSTER hit like Goldeneye 007 ? The story explains that this was a revolutionary game for girls , and essentially changed the market.

UPI- The museum said Barbie Fashion Designer, a 1996 PC game, came at a time when companies were not sure games marketed toward girls could succeed. The game allowed players to design their own clothes for their dolls and print their designs out on special fabric.

"Barbie Fashion Designer became a jumping-off point for the girls' games movement and shook up the software and gaming scene," collections manager Kristy Hisert said. "It also sparked important questions and debate. What does it mean to be a game for girls? Should there even be games 'for girls?' What are the implications of these games? What are the consequences of gendering games?"

You know what … they sold me. That's fine, let Barbie in. But Goldeneye 007 changed the game. Everyone was playing that. Everyone had to own that. The multiplayer alone was a FIXTURE at parties, sleepovers, after school etc. Especially if you had more than 4 people. I was in a basement once and there were 10 kids trying to play video games, it basically went 4 people played , winner stayed and the 3 losers kept rotating in. It made winning that much more important.

Absolute travesty not to put in Goldeneye 007. What on earth is this committee thinking ?
