Ok Fine, Taylor Swift And Matty Healy Are Definitely Up To Something

Here's the thing. It's not that I hate Matty Healy. I don't know him, I like The 1975 a lot. But....I do know that he's like, a professional troll in his music and in his online persona. It's not my kind of humor. It's borderline problematic and I just don't laugh at the same kind of jokes. Which is why, I think, Swifties are up in arms over this potential relationship. This thread is going crazy on Twitter, and again, I don't know the context for a lot of this but it's hard to argue with the podcast clips making fun of accents:

Just not who I'd foresee Taylor being in love with! Taylor spent 6 years selling us on her Love Story with Joe, and Matty Healy is a drastic, immediate change in direction. It's her life, she does what she wants, but when her feelings in lyrics and song are so intertwined with her relationship with her fans, it starts to get messy.

Up top here we have Matty Healy, at one of his last shows mouthing the words "This song is about you, you know who you are, I love you" while performing a newer song "About you." The lyrics are as follows:

Do you think I have forgotten?

Do you think I have forgotten?

Do you think I have forgotten

About you?

You and I (don't let go) were alive (don't let go)

With nothing to do, I could lay and just look in your eyes

Wait (don't let go) and pretend (don't let go)

Hold on and hope that we'll find our way back in the end

Suspicious!!!! And then Taylor mouthed the same thing, night one of Nashville, with MATTY IN THE AUDIENCE, DURING CARDIGAN. CARDIGAN!!!!!!

But I knew you'd linger like a tattoo kiss

I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs

The smell of smoke would hang around this long

'Cause I knew everything when I was young

I knew I'd curse you for the longest time

Chasin' shadows in the grocery line

I knew you'd miss me once the thrill expired

And you'd be standin' in my front porch light

And I knew you'd come back to me

You'd come back to me

And you'd come back to me

And you'd come back

And when I felt like I was an old cardigan

Under someone's bed

You put me on and said I was your favorite

It's kind of like The Bachelor - whenever they are picking leads for the next season, they don't normally choose the person who got "runner up" or who was JUST dumped and visibly heartbroken by The Bachelor/Bachelorette, because it's not believable that they would be totally fine and willing to date someone new, so quickly. In reality, that happens all of the time. But for an audience? People get attached, people get territorial - there are feelings involved, because they had already been told to involve their feelings. So, people have….a lot of feelings when it comes to our new Stepdad.

I have people coming out of the woodwork all over the place saying this is real, they're in love, blah blah blah…I'm not sold just yet. I'm praying it's one big prank on the media and maybe they're just doing a Speak Now or 1989 collab together. Pray pray pray.
